Indicator flash when locking...

Featured Replies

Bit of a strange topic I know, but in my new Octy, should the indicators flash when I lock the car with the remote? They flash twice when I unlock it, but when I lock it nothing happens and it's a bit disconcerting at night as I sometimes have to go back and check it's locked. Anyone got any ideas why this might be or how I can sort it? Cheers guys!

Does it beep when you lock it and do you have a maxidot? If so you can play around with the beep noise but I dont honestly know if this would stop the the indicator flash when locking. I'll have a play around with mine, see what happens

Press the lock button again i.e twice

it cant be done with all maxi dots, but with a vag xom this can be done along with, bleeps only for remote or key locking etc

Had a go with mine on the maxi dot, the lights flash no matter if the beep is turned on or off, so, over to the experts!

If you press the lock button twice you disable the dead-locking and interior alarm sensors!

I had this problem last week.

Turned out to be a rear door not shut properly.

Open and close all the doors firmly and try again.

I've had this happen several times but with the rear hatch. It locks but because it is not quite shut properly it doesn't allow the alarm to set. I think the lack of flashing is a warning something is not closed correctly. The hatch needs a quite a firm action to get it to close all the way, anything less and it appears closed although on closer inspection it is sticking up by a couple of mm.
Press the lock button again i.e twice

That would disable the deadlocks if the system has set correctly.

As has been said one of the doors, bonnet or boot arent shut properly.

I thought you can set the flashes independantly of the confirmation beep/chirps ?

Thanks for all the replies guys - all the doors are definitely shut properly, as smstext suggested, I think it may have been disabled via vag com if such a thing is possible. How do you set it to beep when locking using the maxi dot? I'm thinking that might be the next best thing in terms of I won't have to keep going back to check the thing is locked. On the maxi dot display I can only cycle through the various info about the car on it... Apart from that I'm really pleased with my new L&K! Thanks guys.

Hopefully the doors/boot shut scenario is what caused it in my '58 octy the other day. Let the dog out the boot, walked away and when I went to check if i'd remembered to lock it, it wouldn't flash or chirp. Pressed unlock and it flashed once but no matter how many times I tried locking/unlocking/locking, it wouldn't flash or chirp for the lock process, only for the unlock, but I think the car did actually physically lock.

Does this sound right if i'd have left the boot ajar?

Must admit, it's a tricky one getting the amount of pressure right to close an estate hatch properly, or is it just me??

I get a single flash on locking but no chirp, and would not want it.

It's so quiet I don't understand why people have such a problem with it??

Blackspaven, sounds like your estate catch needs adjusting. Do you have issues using the boot only unlock by any chance?

Big Mikey, the settings are under covienience in the maxidot menu. To access, ensure door closed and seatbelt on and you should see alarm chirp (forget the correct term), and IIRC flashes too.

Cheers mate, I don't seem to have those settings on my maxidot - I can get the convenience menu up but there is no mention of alarm or IIRC flashes.

Erm, not sure gadgetman. Only used it a few times to see it in action and the only thing I noticed is that you have to hold the button down for a few seconds to get it to work but i'm assuming it's meant to do this. What might need adjusting? I'm pretty good with a set of spanners so i'm happy to have a fiddle with the catch myself if you tell me what's supposed to be going on?

Basically, I find it sometimes 'bounces' and doesn't shut properly unless you give it some welly. I'm used to an airtight Mk2 Golf though so it's not unusual to me and I kinda figured it's supposed to be like that. No?

I tried to switch the 'chirp' on using maxidot (purely since the option was there) but it made no difference at all - still just get indicator flashes to let me know. Worth getting the dealer to have a look?
