Dimming interior light

Featured Replies

Hey there folks.

Wasn't sure where to post this really but here goes...

I'm after an interior light to go into my felicia or probably just the wiring for it.

Would like it so that when the light comes on with the doors opening there is a delay from when it actually turns off.

I would then also put some foot well lights in that would be linked to the light so that they behave in the same way.

Thank

Phil

An alarm system like the Viper 1002 is able to control the interior light http://www.directeddealers.com/manuals/ig/viper/N3102V_11-06post.pdf see page 30. I think the fade in and out dimming effect would need a special dimming relay though.

You could get an LED festoon bulb for interior light. I picked one up off ebay, think I went for the one with the highest number of LED's on it, and it's much brighter than the standard bulb.

Here's a good forum for this sort of car electrical stuff the12volt's install bay - Mobile Electronics Forums mostly used by Americans but still useful.

Don't really want to spend all that money on an alarm TBH.

Have found these on ebay...

I'm guessing they just connect in-line to the light and have a capacitor inside that holds enough power to run for so long after the door is closed.

Well I've ordered the latter item... thought I would give it a go!

Have also ordered a time delay relay to activate my auto lights when the doors are locked/unlocked when its dark.

Cool. Sounds interesting. From what I can tell LED lights can't be dimmed so an LED bulb might be a bad idea. I think wires you need to get at should be easily accessible under driver's side kick panel and should be plenty of space to lose the dimming gadget somewhere in there.

Cool... thanks... would have taken me ages to find those wire otherwise! lol

Don't suppose you would know where the wires going to/from the door locks?

Thanks

Phil

Those wires would also be accessible there too but will lead to the control unit somewhere under the dash which would probably be better. Should be 5 wires on the front doors and I think the blue and brown wires will give a positive output when the locks are locked and unlocked, that could be used to operate a relay. I think you will need diodes in the wires tapping these to electrically isolate the wires (otherwise when positive is on one will go to the other as well, and central locking won't work). Blocking Diodes, Isolating Door Triggers and Sensors explains how diodes work. Diodes are only something like 12p each in Maplins.

The time delay relay thing for headlights might be better activated by the door switch, so it is activated whenever the door is opened

Thanks.

Will have a look and get the haynes out too to help.

Nah want it to be activated when I unlock the car with the remote so that the lights come on.

It works by recieving the short burst of current from the door locks then outputting a live to the auto lights controller for a set time.
