Brake query

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I was out dropping the Mother in Law off on Halloween- dont know why she couldnt have flown home on her broomstick like usual, but hey ho-kept the trick or treaters from the door with her growling in the background!!.:)

I was braking suddenly and my brakes failed to stop the car in the required manner - like now!!, pedal felt like it was only going half way down and was solid, then the pedal started to judder. It didnt stop the car, but once I got going again I tried the brake again a few times - as you do and it worked no problems. So I went down the motorway - on the premise that its at low speeds the brake doesnt like, so I'd only have to worry at the end!!. Anyway it was fine again.

The pedal juddered under braking, but the juddering didnt translate into the front wheels in that I wasnt off my expected road position. I checked for a curled up mat under the pedal, but no. I then wondered if I had managed to stamp the gas pedal as well, but the engine wasnt over revving.

This is the second time its happened - first was at slower speed and at first I thought I'd hit diesel in that the front wheels slewed a wee bit, but the car did eventually stop and the pedal juddered as the second time.

Her indoors says goto the garage, but I'd like a rough idea if you have any?.

You have just experienced ABS working. You didn't stop because the road was slippy.......

Yeah thats your ABS, supposedly better than locking up but its quite scary when it happens when you arent expecting it

^^ I agree

lol about the mother in law................. :) :) :)

The MIL wasn't practicing her hocus-pocus stuff from the passenger seat or singing "I'll put a spell on you...", was she?
