Eml

Featured Replies

Anyone got any ideas for the EML and maxdot showing emmisions fault, it's not all the time and the egr pipe that had a hole in it has been repaired, car runs fine, 1.9 PD 04 plate auto.

Also sometimes when starting the engine the engine revs to about 2k on it's own without any pedal and then drops back to idle which kinda suggests airleak somewhere.

I've no idea on this one, sorry I can't be of any use.

Good luck getting it sorted though, let us know how it goes :)

Thx anyway, as far as it goes it could be going, it needs a cambelt 2 tyres and now the fault read and fixed, and as it's on almost 80k and has no warranty I've tried for a deal on a Passat SE today to no avail though, 3k px is an insult, but there are a few cheap Vectra's about, so I might knock it in against one of these and let VX fault find and fix for the next 2 yrs.

It's settled down down, I think the ecu had to reset it's parameters before the light went out, had numerous starts today without it coming on, got offered 4k against a 9.5k Vectra at a main agent, so I think 4.5k should be attainable after prolonged negotiations, still not sure I wanna Vectra though, a car ruined by lack of legroom, but a bloody good tool.

Back on again tonight, I'm gonna get a Vectra again tbh, better ride and mechanics who do know how to fix it, VAG suck if I'm honest, coded oil specs etc, not what I'm used to, and I never had a VX dealer give up on curing a fault, unlike a Skoda one who knew I needed a new engine mount but due to the work involved decided to deny it and ignore it and say nothing found, I've loved this car for what it is, but for backup it's non existant and that isn't what I want, I'll be glad when this whole sorry affair is over, not as bad as my Pug experience, but way under average on the whole, I think even a Ford dealer would pay more attention, can't wait to get shot of and get back with a company that doesn't wriggle like a snake.

Why not stay with the best diesel engines and galvanised bodies (VAG) and keep well clear of their dealers? There are plenty of good independent outlets who will service VAG vehicles properly.

The Americans just can't do small diesels (or big ones, come to that) and mess up adapting European or Japanese engines by trying to fit their own crummy fuel systems. Have a look on the Internet to see how Ford owners are getting on with their Delphi-fuelled diesels.

It's off again today, I give up with it tbh, it's not the car it's the way £1.50 parts end up costing us £450 because the machine doesn't reveal the true fault.

Sounds very much like an issue with the throttle pedal if its reving up on its own, quite well known for water do get in around the ECU box or the bonnet cable grommet, run down the cable and into the multi plug.

But this is only an assumption of a dealer spanner monkey ;)

I did wonder about that...

Still. I'd like to point out that this particular dealer spanner monkey is not at a dealer any more so therefore he's a liar.

Oi, I never called you that, I appreciate your input here, just because you pride your work doesn't mean all do, and you know there are a pile of sub standard mechanics out ther.

I meant Lummox is a liar... he's not a dealer spanner monkey any more!

EDIT: I can see where I went wrong in my OP - by "this" I meant Lummox, not me... I'm not a mechanic! :o
