Using dynomat to best effect in Octy II...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive got a bulk pack of dynamat Xtreme - Im wanting to apply it for two reasons. Firstly; to enhance the sound quality of the audio system (MFD3 Columbus and standard eight speakers) and secondly to block out some road noise.

Could anyone give me an idea of where I should be applying it specifically. I was thinking inner door skins and boot floor maybe?

Apparently, it is also recommended that you pop the speakers out and dynomat around the speaker (compressed between the speaker and the door panel it attaches to) BUT im sure Ive read that the Octy II speakers are riveted in place. Any ideas around this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

For the best tyre noise reduction I would suggest (in order of difficulty as all have an effect):

- Boot floor, especially the bottom and sides of the spare tyre well.

- Under the rear seat bench.

- Sides of the boot and rear arches.

- Floor of the car and front arches.

Door will have an effect too, but I feel less so compared to these for road noise.

Obviously the doors will be good for keeping the speakers working well at volume.

Sounds great (pun intended!) :rofl::thumbup:

Did just the front doors on my Octavia I and it made a huge difference to sound quality.

difference is very huge

I'm not surprised, stripping out the interior of the car is a major job & getting to the bulkhead/firewall.

Is there any point in doing the roof? It would keep the car warmer in winter and cooler in summer I would expect. and reduce wind noise from the roof rails.

The roof will be done in next stage.

Also did the same when I upgraded the front component speakers. The difference is very noticable.

Just about to dynamat the boot, under the rear seats and the rear doors ready for the sub.

Now thats dedication:eek:

Good old Roy Castle would be proud of you;)

car audio direct also do some good stuff called second skin damplifier, can get 40sq foot worth for 80 or sumthing. ive done my front doors and 1/3 of my boot, then i ran out (although i had split the amount with a friend) makes a huge difference (mines an octy 1 though) would have thought the principles would be the same though

Hi mate,

Thought I'd throw in some advice for you.

The Octy II already comes treated with sound deadening on the outer door skins from factory, so adding more to it will achieve nothing while simply adding unwanted weight to the car. In all honesty, the doors just don;t need it, and too many people are fanatical over sound deadening these days when there's really no need.

In regards the road noise, the truth is that asphalt based matts are designed to treat only panel vibration and not 'transferred noise' like road noise that comes through the car panels. For this you need to treat the car with under carpet material like underlay, and again the Octy II is already well 'deadened' in this regard - meaning that it is already 90% as silent as it is likely to get and any great efforts will only yield very minimal if any improvements.

how about decreasing road noise in an octy 1? what products come reccomended for laying down under the floor to decrease road noise because now i have a turbo back exhaust i wouldnt mind making it a little quieter in the car for motorway journeys
