EGR by pass - am I missing something.

Featured Replies

I've been having a bit of a read on Seatcupra.net and TDIclub regarding how to overcome the sooting up of the engine inlet caused by the EGR valve. Now as I understand it you can;

1. Go for an EGR bypass, £50ish from Allard/Jabba etc, which gets rid of the valve but you then have issues with anti-shudder when stopping the car and you get a CEL light, which can then pay more money to be mapped out. OR

2. You can fit a blanking plate in place of a gasket to the EGR, whith a small hole in it, approx £10, that has the same effect as the bypass but you don't get issues with the anti-shudder or the CEL light.

So why is the EGR bypass so popular :confused:

just got a bypass on mine! looks awesome in its shinyness haha theres a slight noticeable shudder when the car stops but nothing thats worrying! and no lights on the dash so far!

Give it time ;):thumbup::rofl:

Give EGR and intercooler a good clean and fit elephant mods (from Bas) - see threads. The mod stops oil getting into the EGR & intercooler and it's the cooked oil which creates the soot. Total cost negligible (although some versions seen in posts are engineering style models); all reversible;no stutter/shudder problems; no lights on dash. Did mine a few months ago and pleased with results - no problems at all. Spend your money on something useful ;-)

If the EGR is already "gunked up" then doing the "trunk mod" wont really help.......I've done both the trunk mod and the egr bypass pipe. Having just ran the trunk mod for a while then ran the EGR bypass, IMO the car runs "smoother" without the EGR.

(waits to be shot down in flames................. :P)

That's because i adjusted your map when we fitted the unit :)

We offer this for free if it's one of our pipes that has or is being fitted..
