More rev counter/speedo problems

Featured Replies

Hey folks, me once again, the rev counter has caught something from the speedo problem (the speedo problem being that it darts around when at a standstill and beeps at me). The speedo, when changing gear darts to one reading then, a split second later drops by 200-300RPM, this is something i havn't noticed in 2 years of owning the car... along with this, my coolant expansion tank needs replacing... could this be a cause?... most likely not... Any help or info would be apprechiated as it's worrying me... the car seems to be running fine, no lumpy idle and it hasn't stalled in ages, in fact i'd say it's running better than it ever has...

im not sure if your car works with an electrical speedo or a wire speedo, first thing to do from experience with other cars is to find where the sensor is and that it is warn or broken, this would be my first port of call. However if its electrical it could be a contact has corroded or broken or contaminated. A similar thing happened 4 months ago on my works lorry leaving me with just my gps for speed reading, it iirc was eventually found to be the electronic sensor as they couldnt work out why it was fine for the first hour of the day and got worse and worse for the rest.

Yeah, both will take their input from a sensor somewhere on the transmission, so wherever that is (sorry, can't help) will more than likely be the source of your problem...
