Columbus DVD Version

Featured Replies

4 Questions about the Sat Nav DVD (James, I'm hoping you may know the answers to some of these - My dealer doesn't)

1) What version of DVD Software do people have loaded in their Columbus units ? Mine is 6317, dated Feb 2008 (read via PimpMyNav)

2) Is there anyway to check version on the Columbus unit itself ? When you change DVD's it simply informs you the DVD is different from the contents, but doesn't tell you what version you have (or are loading)

3) Anyone know when the next official version is due for release ?

4) Is the only way to get updates through Skoda ? If you go to Navteq's website, it says contact your VW dealer (Skoda isn't listed, but as the RNS510 is the same as in the Toureg, I figure it will be same procedure).

6317 is the current version, which you can tell from the volume name when you insert the disk in a PC (CD_6317)

It is possible to display the installed version, but this requires the use of the Columbus debug menu.

When the system initially starts up it shows the Skoda logo. Immediately after that it says something to the effect of 'system starting'. Whilst that is happening, press the setup button and hold it for 15 or so seconds. It should boot to the menu.

To perform a system reboot, so that you see 'system starting', then you need to do a 3 finger salute, which is < > and i keys at the same time (that's track forward, track backward and the satnav announcement button).

Whether or not this menu will appear is controlled by the long coding setup for the Columbus. By default, this menu is disabled, but can be enabled if you know someone with VAG-COM.

In order to enable the menu, go into adaption channel 50, enter 1 for value and hit save. Close controller. I rebooted the 510 at this point, not sure if it is necessary. Once 510 boots hold setup for 15-20 seconds and the test menu comes up.

Not sure about this. Have been told mid-2009 tentatively, and that 7-digit postcode search is a priority.

Only way to get updates is from VAG group. The Columbus uses the same disk as the RNS510, so their is a common disk for VW, SEAT and Skoda. The units from each manufacturer have a vendor id in them, which controls which dealerships and what splash screen the unit shows.

Hope this helps,

Bagpuss.

Thanks for that, knew some of it but not all.

Yet again, an example where the members here seem to know more than the dealers...... :thumbdwn:
