First time out with the Kestrel

Featured Replies

Sorry if this isn't 'in-depth' or technical enough for some of you, but...I'm tired

I recently bought a Kestrel DAS-6 machine polisher along with Meguiar's pads, Sonus spot pads, Menzerna polishes and a few other bits and pieces from Clean Your Car (excellent supplier for those who don't know...)

Anyway, I was itching to try this lot out, so after extensive research on Detailing World, I set to work on my Fabia. The car was washed and clayed, then the fun began...

The polishing stage itself is very time-consuming (and physically hard work!), but, to me, very rewarding. Although tricky at first, you soon get the hang of it.

The car had light swirling, and after some testing I decided to stick with Menzerna 106FA on a Meguiars polishing pad, which had the desired effect, followed by 85RD on a finishing pad (the relevant spot pads were used around the bumpers and other tight areas etc.)

After this, using a finishing pad, I applied some Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite. I was very impressed with this, quick and easy to use, smells edible, makes the paint look wet enough to jump into, and a little goes a very long way.

This was then topped off with two layers of Collinite 476. I feel the results speak for themselves

If you're thinking about breaking into machine detailing, I would suggest that you do a litle homework...and go for it!

Any comments or questions welcome

Looks very nice. I think you've done a good job with your car.

And I thought this post was about a bird LOL :)

I love my new kestrel too..however, the mains lead is far too short..i had to put my extension reel on a chair, so that i could reach the roof..hey, it all added to the fun though:)

Yep, I had to do that too...

I was supposed to be giving my dad's 54 plate metallic black Polo 'the treatment' over the next day or two, would've been a great testbed, but unfortunately my garage is now occupied with my mum's god-forsaken Peugeot 307. 07 plate, 5000 miles, central locking goes bananas and it leaks like a sieve!:finger:

I want my detailing bay back

Looking good :)

Looks good to me mate:thumbup:
