Ice techie help - sparky type thing ;)

Featured Replies

Hi there. I've got four CPU fans to wire into my existing ICE system, to allow air to be fanned over the two amplifiers under my false floor.

I've got to the point of knowing the yellow wire on them is for the RPM counter in a PC, so will be chopped off and capped. However it gets interesting with the others. If I do what I "should", (red to power, black to ground) the fans will work nicely, but will be on the whole time. The other option which I'm not sure is recommended, is put the red fan cable to the amp's remote feed, so the fans only get power when the HU is running.

The question is can one amplifier's remote feed provide enough go go juice to a pair of CPU fans, and do I risk blowing something up. :D I can't imagine CPU fans are gonna be a big wattage, so don't really see this being much of a problem.... Throwing this out to the sparkies out there.

Oh, and YES I know what I SHOULD DO, and thats wire as first stated and have some form of relay from the remote feed to click the power on and off for the fans... But I frankly ain't got the foggiest about this - might be a question I'll throw over to Joel on the 4th. Reckon I'll bring along some spare wires out my wreck for this. ;)

yep a small 5 amp relay will be fine and best for this sort of thing....what you do is use the perminate live feed from an amp the earth and the remote to switch the relay...running things from the remote isnt ideal but will work...to a point.. and for the sake of a couple of quid for a relay hardly seems worth the risk of your HU smoking..id recommend two for four fans minimum...

will expaline on the 4th....problem is time...i noticed last night is getting dark around 7pm time i have a big light in the yard but its not ideal but 2hrs shoudl be enough to do comps not sure how much tme there will be to do anything else...but can expaline and am also at traxx..

I also got a 5 amp chocolate block to allow tapping into the HU's wiring. :D

I think I'll take a peek at the Maplins website for a relay then, but you need to understand that I know very little, ok... sod all  about electrics. Its a learning process with me. :D

(I imagine Geoff is probably  about now...)
