Whats a cam belt look like?

Featured Replies

Please excuse my ignorance but is the cam belt on an Octavia Tdi 1.9 visible by just lifting the bonnet?

Or do you have to take loads of bits off?

If it is visible I would like to know what I'm looking at. I reckon I would spot fraying edges and missing teeth but then maybe not.

Thanks.

Its under a cover to the left hand side, what engine do you have?

Probably under a cover on the left hand side of the engine. :) Is a toothed belt with the flat side visible when the cover is removed. If you look from the left hand side of the engine bay you might be able to see some of the extremity of the belt wrapping itself around the bottom of the engine. It looks like this off a car.

And although a totally different engine (thanks google images! ) this is kind of what it does on that side of the engine
