Pdi

Featured Replies

I ordered my new Skoda last October, a car spec similar to that of JBLincs, and I understand it was delivered to the UK just before Xmas. I am buying the car through an agent and was told last week that I could expect to the have the car sometime this week. Today I have been notified that it needs to complete the PDI process and I may not receive the vehicle this week. I would be grateful if someone could let me know how long the PDI process should take?

my car arrived at the delear on 30th dec and i collected on the 6th jan. Bear in mind the dealer had a reduced staffing over the hols and new years day was in there as well. I could have collected the car on sat 3rd at a push if it hadnt been for the spoiler needing spraying. Allams told me they could turn it round in 1.5 to 2 days at a pinch. I reckon 3 working days is all they could possible justify.

mine hit UK soil on 28th dec. it took 2/3 days to get it from the delaer to the docks due to a skoda UK **** up (ask your dealer / agent to check the status of the car and whehter "box 11" has been ticked, otherwise the car cannot be "seen" by the transport company so they will not deliver it. apparently this is a known fault and happens with lots of new skodas)

i cant see any reason why you should not have your car by now. i reckon the agent is "pulling your plonker" so to speak. give them some grief

My car also hit the shore about the same time.

As I understand it there's a bit of paperwork involved in the process as well as a test drive and all the other checks. If everything is in order that's great but if the workshop find something that needs sorted or adjusted (and that's surely the whole point of the exercise) then they'll need more time. Remember also that it's a new model to the workshop and the technicians will have had little or no training on the car. The last thing the dealer will want is to tell you it will only take 2 days and then have to come back to tell you they've found a problem that will delay handover. How much work is required will be influenced by the model and the options ordered.

I was asked for an insurance cover note so the car could be registered - so that again takes time to sort.

I've given my dealer a week for the PDI as I'd rather it was done properly. It gives the dealer sufficient time to find out how to demonstrate some of the features (which are new to them) and answer some of the questions I have asked. More time is also required if dealing with a towbar and related electrics.

surely the techs will ave had training on the superb ?

I took my insurance cert with me when i collected and they taxed the car whilst i was having the handover (some dealers are licenced & trained to produce tax discs..they are audited and keep blank discs on the premises)

I new as much about the car as the dealer thanks to all you guys on here !! To be fair James is differnet to many dealers in that he does frequent this forum and has good product knowledge. I also read the manual (pdf) before i collected.

I am still finding things i dont understand and the manual is useless as the translation is pretty poor !! you would think the VW group is big enough to find someone who can speak proper english to do the translation. I also would have thought they would have translated all the "rights" to "lefts" to allow for the fact that we drive on the other side of the road (see section for setting of mirror position when reverse is engaged).

The actual PDi takes about an hour, it's more or less an mot, then there's cleaning, what's holding you up is the paperwork in the office.

At Long Last!!!!

My car will have its "pdi" tomorow and it will be delivered to me on Friday.

Its over 3 months since I ordered and l hope its been worth waiting for? Looking at the comments on the forum its difficult to find an unhappy new owner and I hope I have a similar response.
