park assist and parking sensors

Featured Replies

how reliable do you find park assist to be ? I went out to play with it the other night and it was a bit hit and miss. the main issue being the distance the car ended up from the kerb when parked. In some cases it was too far away.

Also - do you find the parking sensors dont give you much leeway when the orange segment comes on. On my old car when the continous beep sounded there was a good 12" to collision but with the superb its only about 5/6 inches. i nudged the car behind me the other night despite stopping a soon as the orange came on. I am still finding very small movements tricky with the DSG - not a much finite control as a manual car.

I've also found this with mine, but experimentation shows that it's got more to do with the distance from the kerb of the cars you are parking between.

The sensors can't determine where the kerb is, so they use the drivers side of the car in front, or behind as the reference point. You should find that the Superb ends up being parked dead in line with either the car in front (or behind), so if this car is 2ft from the pavement, then the Superb will be too.

As for the parking sensors, then I find them to be about the same as my old Octy, so haven't had a problem yet. I do appreciate what you say about find movements with the DSG, it can be tricky at first.

I find it easier to rely upon the audible beeps while controlling the clutch and monitoring the other cars/pedestrians, rather than staring at the screen. I'll confirm the distance next time but my impression is that it's about 12" rather than half of that.

I'm a bit surprised with you finding it tricky with DSG as I had assumed park assist wil be much easier with it than manual. But then you might be right if clutch control does allow finer control on speed.

its not the park assist as such is just the final small movements when in a tight space. I think it will be OK once i get used to the intricacies of the box and how to drive it.

Park Assist with DSG is done entirely on the brake (well on the flat it is) so in that respect its easy. just got to get used to the bleeps and pictures.

I dont use the pics all the time as you are correct that observation is important but the pics are useful when nearing the end of the maneouver
