vrs suspension/steering knocking

Featured Replies

hi all,

i've got an '02 octavia vrs which has developed a problem.

there's a knocking sound coming from the front when i go over bumpy surfaces.

i took it to my local garage, and they reckon its a knuckle which sits above/below the steering rack.

i went to a skoda dealer and they said it was probably a drop-arm, but they couldn't be 100% until i coughed-up £50+vat for someone to check.

another guy reckoned on 'd' cups, whatever they are. said it fixed his audi a3 1.8t.

he said the symptoms were a knocking sound and a wallowy/floaty feel over bumps - which is what i've got.

has anyone got any ideas as to what might be wrong?

apart from that i'm enjoying the car. can't believe i spent nearly 20 years driving crappy peugeots. i deserve a beating for my stupidity.

many thanks.

Front anti roll bar bushes?

Do a search on here for them. I had mine replaced in November, it was making a slight knocking noise when going over bumps on the drivers side, and the steering felt wallowy. They had to replace the anti roll bar itself as well as it corroded under the sleeves for the bushes. Total cost was £140 although Skoda quoted me £190 to do it

Knuckles and D cups, sounds like a night out in Huddersfield!

Could be lots of things without checking. But ARB bushes are common, along with the drop links. Both cheap and easy jobs, unless you need a new bar, like chicken_eyebrow above.

If you can't check the suspension yourself, I'd be tempted to let Skoda have a go.

My radiator mounts caused the same knocking sound with my vRS, I had them replaced and it's been perfect ever since.

thanks for the replies.

i'll get the drop links and the arb bushes done hopefully tomorrow.

the mechanic who checked it did seem confident the frontend was solid, although i am tempted to let skoda take a look cus theres so many possible things it could be, all of which could end up costing loads, £55ish seems almost a bargain to be 100% sure.

Thanks sneeks, I was ripping my hair out trying to find the bloody knocking! It was the radiator, the mountings had gone. Genius!

Hi guys I know this is an Old post but any help will be much appreciated, I have the same problem on my vRS.

Did you guys replace all the 4 radiator mounts and did you have to take the bumper and crash bar off to access the radior?
