Hooray...delivery date confirmed for 23/01/09

Featured Replies

This afternoon I phoned our leasing company to enquire after my Superb. The lady I spoke to called me back quickly to say the car had been delivered to the dealer (Reading based).

I've now agreed delivery of RF58 EFX for next Friday 23 January!

I shall miss my Octy, however, I'm looking forward to driving the Superb for the next four years.

A very good date to get a car! (I was born on 23/01/79 ;))

god i'm jealous, all I know at the moment is the end of January

Well I will also celebrate devonutopia in the same way and take my delivery next Friday, albeit here in Sweden. My satin grey Elegance 170 DSG will then replace my dear Octy. The new car is exciting but I will truly miss the old one too. :) :(

Really Jealous now, just been told mine has been put back to week 6

If anyone knows people at Jewsons, please give them a slap

After 60 miles, the Superb is now parked and I must say that I have truly enjoyed the first day with the new car. The AFS is magnificent here in dark Sweden and I could continue for long... Also have gotten a lot of positive attention from neighbours (die hard Audi bunch) as well as from wife, mother and daughter. I liked the Octy but this is something else, much more refined, much more car overall. :D

 glad your happy

My Superb II was delivered to my office yesterday afternoon. The Rosso Brunello seems to be liked by most people in the office and looks imposing 'in the metal'.

The 45 mile drive home on the M42/M5 was very relaxing and first observations are that the Superb is quieter and more refined than my Octy II equipped with the same engine. There is a lot less wind noise, while the engine appears better soundproofed than in the Octy. MPG on the MFD showed 55mpg cruising at 70mph.

I especially like the very clear dash which has a premium feel. The Bolero radio produces superior sounds to the Ambience system in the Octy. The seats will grow on me and are a small improvement over the Octy, but still inferior to those in the Insignia (for a tall individual especially).

The 5 speed gearbox appears slicker from the outset than I remember in my Octy.

I still miss a rear wash/wipe, while the handbrake is on the 'wrong' side of the central tunnel.

My car was delivered on a trailor and arrived less than clean, however, the interior was immaculate and all the extras present. Cleaning the wheels today I discovered a 1cm mark on one of the alloys, probably caused during transit, either from the factory, or the journey from the dealer. Incidentally, I have waxed the wheels to make them easier to clean. The tyre pressure were incorrect (front 2.30 and rear 2.42) and have been adjusted to the recommended 2.4 and 2.5 Bar respectively.

The tyres are Michelin Energy which was a surpise as I was expecting Conti's. The Michelin's should give an economy edge, even if grip levels are less than those of the Conti's.

Last night the family came for a drive and were generally impressed. The Superb is a car best driven in a relaxed manner, much as you would in a large Merc or Audi. That said, the steering has plenty of feel and corners can be taken with condidence.

I'm glad I specced Maxidot as I have already set the remote fob to unlock ALL doors with one press of the button, while daytime running lights have already been activated. Cleverly, if DRL's are selected the dipped beam operates at 92% strength top conserve power, only providing 100% strength when conditions dictate the same.

The large bonnet has a gas strut, unlike the Octy, however, there is a knack in closing the bonnet without resorting to the no-no of pushing down with your hand. You need to lower the bonnet to approx 30cm then drop it to enable it to slam shut. Dropping from higher than this and the gas strut will prevent closing, while too low a distance and the bonnet will not latch properly.

A bonus of headlamp washers is the increase in reservoir capacity from 3 to 5.5 litres. Curiously, there is no switch to activate the headlamp washers, they operate automatically the first time you wash the screen, then every 5th time thereafter.

The glovebox is a very good size and far superior to that in the Insignia. Internal lighting is very good (front and rear map reading) and an improvement over my Octy.

Thanks for the interesting report veloplus. Sounds like you have the same spec car that I'm thinking about getting.

Glad to hear the 1.9 is quieter and more refined in the Superb compared to the Octavia. I had a test drive in the 2.0 CR Elegance today. Although it was reasonably quiet the ride, as I feared with the 18" wheels, was too harsh for my liking. My wife commented on the poor ride too completely unprompted.

Last week I tried a SE on 17" wheels and that was better but not great so now I'm thinking maybe the S is the right choice given the 16" wheels and presumably the softer ride - yes I know they look too small for many people on here but I don't worry about what others think. However it's disappointing that leather isn't an option on the S.

I'm thinking about the 1.9 PD engine as it has a good reputation for reliability (I keep my cars a long time) and economy although from what I've read the refinement could be better. Coming from a Mazda 626 diesel I doubt it can be any worse than that!

It would be good if you could post some pictures of your new car. I'm particularly interested to see the interior as I have been unable to find any pictures showing what the UK spec S model looks like inside.

Glad you enjoyed my 'first impressions'. Another bonus of the 1.9Tdi in the 'S' is that it doesn't have a DPF. These appear to be more trouble than they're worth in a lot of diesel engined cars.

The 1.9Tdi is proven and in nearly four years of driving my Octy II and almost 115k miles it never let me down. The only parts replaced during that time was the lefthand cruise/indicator stalk, fuel filter housing (replaced with newer improced design) and a replacement rear wiper motor.

The interior of the 'S' is very pleasant and the cloth is a high quality black cloth (with silver dots on the seat and back rest). The cloth is far superior to the horrible nylon cloth I remember insie a 'S' spec Golf MkV. I'll take some pics next weekend and post up on ths site. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Good to hear you're in the 16" wheel 'camp'. IMHO, the 16" wheels look fine and the open design makes them a doddle to clean compared to the other designs of Superb wheel.

any chance of pics of the 16" wheels ?

I am seriously considering buying some for my car as I reckon they will improve the ride. I dont care what they look like.

the only mistake i made was getting the car wil 17" wheels - i shoudl have gone for 18" wheels so that when i replace with 16" wheels i will have the originals to put back on it when I sell. Oh well. sure it wont make that much difference as i will keep the car a long time
