Central Locking Drivers Door

Featured Replies

Not had a bit of bother the locking or unlocking my mk1 vRS until this morning. Basically all doors unlock via the remote first time bar the drivers door. When you lock it through the remote and open it again the drivers side opens?!!

Anyone else had this?

Yes. mine only opens on the second or third attempt, it was the second for a few weeks, now its the third 4th or i just give up and use the key. i am assuming that it is a loose solder joint inside the lock, but its too cold and wet to have a look, i will live with it until better weather arrives. there is a thread with a good explanation of how to fix it.

Know the weather has only got worse but have you bothered looking at yours yet?

One thing i have noticed is that the drivers side door handle feels a little weird too - seems to pull up and out and get caught going back in, thinking it could be related.

no, snowing now.

the door is getting worse, now it wont unlock from the remote at all.

got new tyres and a service then a mot to sort so its at the back of the list.

Weather better now so i Fixed the central locking unit in the drivers door. nothing obvious wrong so i resoldered all the connections on the circuit board, put it all back and it now works!

just a mot to pass now.

How easy was it to get out?

Hi

its a bit of a swine, you have to remove the window winder supports at the back of the door just to give you a few mm of extra space. once you free it the lock just fits through the gap left. make sure you test it properly before you put it back. i replaced mine with the arm for the door handle in the wrong position so it locked from the remote but you could still open it from the outside! not happy. required removal and stripped down again. you need a splined bit to remove the bolts that hold the lock in place, and torx drivers for the lock barrel. a good idea is to take photos of the lock before you disassemble it, i didn’t and spent 1/2 hr trying to get it back together.

good luck

best of luck.
