using an ipod shuffle with a head unit

Featured Replies

Has anybody tried / uses or knows if the 1st generation ipod shuffle will work with an aftermarket head unit with a USB output?

I was thinking of fitting this head unit Alpine CDE 9880R CD/MP3/USB iPod Ready Player - Car Audio Discount and then connecting my shuffle that way I wouldnt miss not having the factory CD changer in the boot.

It seems like a good unit at that price, £50 cheaper than Halfrauds and it has the option of bluetooth with an accessory.

I can't really justify buying a Nano for £100.

Thanks.

Best bet is to contact Alpine and check with them, or find a ICE shop with the unit on display and try it.

The specs for the unit state that it works with all docking ipods via an optional component,

HU quote

"Full Speed Connection for iPod (optional KCE-422i required)"

Car Audio Direct - Alpine KCE-422i iPod Cable - iPod Friendly

Optional Cable quote

"Single cable connection allows 2007 Full Speed compatible Alpine stereos to control an iPod.

Fast data transfer

Artist/song info appears on the display

Bass Engine™ settings can be assigned to iPod

So as long as its a docking one its ok. I dont think the shuffle is though :(
