fitted new brake light switch and now brakes bind

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to forum and wondered if anyone can help.

I have 04reg octavia 1.9pd 130 and had the flashing glow plug light the otherday. Turned out to be the brake pedal switch, got a new one from local vag dealer and fitted. brake lights work ok but brakes appear to stick on a bit making the wheels hot. pressing the pedal with the engine off clears the sticking but then it comes back a few miles into the journey.

can anyone help???

cheers

Was it a green switch?

no it was black, 1J0 945 511 C, vag man gave me what he said was the replacement part!

My replacement was green as above

Should really be a green one by now.

But either way I suspect you havent fitted the switch 100% right. the black ones can be tricky hence the green ones now being supplied as they have done away with the ratchet mech inside.

hmmmmmm. my replacement was a greeny blue. does anyone know if 1J0 945 511 C is now D, E F etc, I am sure I have the wrong switch which is allowing the pedal to hold down slightly thus allowing the vacuum to pull the brakes on after a few minutes of running.

the one I have fitted now is 1C0 945 511A - is this the right one do you think?

sorted folks - thanks for all your help and guidance - turned out to be fitted not quite right, I must have moved the pedal slightly before fitting it - the end result the pedal was depressed slightly in the rest position.

cheers all

Nice one

Thanks for the feedback. We all live and learn. :)
