Would the drivers window regulator, be a standard VW part fitted not only to the superb but a passat as well.

Any pics of what one looks like would help as well

Try vagcat, it will give you the part No. & a drawing, then cross reference it to a Passat, or better still phone a VW dealer and quote the part No. you want, see what they say.

I would be VERY surprised if its not a part used throughout VAG.
