Small hose on top of EGR. 1.9 pd130

Featured Replies

Hello All

Could anyone tell me what this hose does and what the implications would be if it were to split? I've just discovered that my engine cover is cutting through mine...

Thank you.

The small hose applies vacuum to the actuator for the EGR. The circular metal part which you can see through the hole in the cover is the upper part of the actuator. There is a diaphragm inside which pulls open the EGR valve when this function is demanded by the ECU.

Vac leaks are bad news on these power units as a loss of vac can result in the loss of other important functions such as VNT actuation and anti-shudder. If the EGR valve does not open on demand, a fault code will be logged and possibly the EML will come on.

How has the hose become damaged - it's reasonably robust. Has the engine cover been refitted by an "expert" - there's just enough clearance for the hose if the cover is properly fitted with all of the lower bushings in place.
