Fitting another stereo in a Felly

Featured Replies

Hi Briskodians!

On this sunny afternoon, I decided to swap the stereo which came with the car from factory, I guess, to a brand new one.

I have a couple of questions:

1- How can I get the rid of the actual one, do I (really) need the special anti-thief tool..?

2- When it'll be out, what kind of cable/wire/connector will I find..? (ISO..?)

3- Are there tips to know before diving into the job..?

Thanks in advance! :tilt:

there is a pair of iso connections , one for the speakers, and one for the power, but the power conector has non-standard wiring configuration, best of buying an adaptor for it

are you goig to use a amplifire in conjuction with the new stereo?

what speakers are you planing to use?

what headunit brand/model are you going to install?

regardles of what your going to mount, get a 16-14gauge cable (Red) and connect it directly to the batery for the headunits main, check the fuse of your headunit and get a capasitor of the same amp, but double the voltage. the reason for doing this is if you turn the radio up to full volume you wont hear distortion or clipping due to lack of power

if your going to use an amp, don't stash it bellow the front seats, instead mount it in the trunk i've seeen a lot of amps damage by water or spill drinks. and wiring damage by feet too. plus securing the amp in place means making a hole in the worst place, the bottom of the car.

if the radio did not come with the manual, look online for the correct color code from the radio, double check the wiring and never let a speaker wire touch ground or another bare wire, it will kill your head unit if its a high power one...

dont get huge speakers... head units only produce 8watts per chanel RMS (20watt peak) so getting 6x9 speakers rated @ 600watt will kill the fidelity, volume, body and color of whatever your playing

if you mount the speakers directly to the back trunk division your going to be killing the ammount of bass you can get from the speakers, get a 1/2 inch playwood cut it to fit and mount the speakers there, you can paint or apolster the playwood, it will look real good, and you going to get the maximum bass from the rear speakers, front speakers wont make bass (the plastic will only allow them to reach 300 htz)

if your going to use an amp to drive a sub enclosure, wire it from a straigh sorce from the battery, and connect the blue/wite cable from the head unit to the signal, and i would sudjest you cap all the speakers with a crossover, the crossover frequency i prefer is 200-2000 for voice 20-200 sub and 2000-20000 tweeters that way you wont blow the speakers and will enjoy crisp sound with full color and body. if you need help contructing them (instead of buying them) let me know i have all the diagrams needed.

great sound is not about power, is about matching the speakers headunit, and if used, amplifire

best of luck

Nothing big, just a new cheap one, with some fancy things like USB and such!

The things is, I think I'm missing a piece of cable between my stereo and the ISO connector I'll find...

I'll try to get the old one out tomorrow... Let you know! ;)

Thanks for the quick replies!

I swapped my factory fit cass/radio for a CD, as for getting the old one out you should find there's plenty of room to get your hand behind the console and just give it a good shove( assuming you don't need the cage), mine came out real easy. The ISO connector on your new unit should fit the original wire for wire. Also watch out with your USB, as if you use a memory stick they stick out at 90 degrees, not far from your knee.

So, I got the damn old stereo off the car, found the connector, and...

I need to get back to the shop that sold me the new one, as it looks like a missing cable!

Thanks for your help! ;)

Mine had a standard ISO connector on the Felicia and Favorit

Unless the original stereo was put back in before I bought the Felicia.

There was definately a missing cable. Got the all lot replace by another one, but celebrate too much to start the job!

Hope it'll work straight away! :)

After checking (twice minimum) the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual and the one given with the stereo, it was just plug'n'pray... Errr..? PLAY!!! :D

It works great!!!

Just have to check the battery draining thing that some here experienced...

Thanks guys!

when you switch the unit off, do you lose your pre-set channels?

97 1.3 is the same as mine, chances are if you leave your stereo on but turn off the engine and pull the key out it will stay on, thats because the cars iso only houses permanent lives, where most cars have 1 permanent, 1 ignition. so the pre-sets will stay but the stereo will always stay on. i could not for the life of me find an ignition feed in the dash, (usually theres one in the lighter socket you can use) so ive ended up just making a switch for it, saves my battery and it only takes abit more effort than usual.

if your stereo is one of the big brands the wiring harness usually comes with the red and yellow wires already fixed with bullit connectors, so just pull the yellow apart and feed both ends into a switch.

It stays saved.

Just like before, and work as well without the key in and turned.

I don't think it will change, but it'll be more like before, with a better stereo! :D

Exactly, that what I noticed.

I tried as well, with no luck...

i miselft put in a new stereo (new to the car, but is a realy old Aiwa) and was looking for a way to connect it to the ignition switch. In the ignition switch found a empty conector put it there and the radio stayed on after pulling the key out, so i have to re-wire the thing :S... any one know how to wire the switch ?
