New ice for my fab! Need advice on amp install

Featured Replies

Very excited about all of this! Need to work out to install it all though!

How are you guys installing you amps and how are you doing your cable runs?

How would I start making a false floor in the boot?

GSM - you still coming to Jabba on Saturday? Because I reckon you can learn all the answers there - you can see my DIY false floor too. :D and the amps install, which looks more like a birds nest than anything else...

Oh, yes! High noon at Jabba!

Will be there with my camera and clipboard mate :) Need to make a lot of notes so I can get my install to be as good as the components I want to put in the car!

Want a stealth install with good SQ :)

If you want a stealth don't look at my install - I've got no boot left!

I'll see you then anyway - I'll have some polish and a cloth for you! ;):D

"As Jason's latest ICE install goes horribly wrong he stands back hoping his Burberry shirt won't get scorched" ;)

 Joel didn't tell me that semtex was an essential element of the wiring?!

I think that the guy in the hat looks remarkably like you J?? :D

Ahem! Not burberry enough to be me! :P

I am sure I have seen you in a hat just like that though.

lol!

:)

Jason I only thought you wore cornish teas!!

The power lead for my amps runs from the battory thought the left hand drive bonnet release gromets( you have to remove the centers of the gromets) the power cable then runs down the back of the dash and in to the trim that runs along the inside of the sill. when it gets to the back of the car it goes under the rear seats and in to the boot. be very carfull that the cable does not get traped or can not get cut by the rear seat or other things e.g where it goes throught the front bolk head. My system fues is under the bonet so if there is a problem the fuse should blow

Mine goes the same way, and you DO have to be careful with the rear seats, as the cables go under them, and with my constant removal/refitting of them, I have to be careful not to trap them in the seat's securing mechanism!:D

I've now had to split power in the boot as well, as a second amp joins the party. Hoping the 80A fuse down by the battery will be fine with it - no major demands gonna be placed on the wiring as the two amps collectively aren't that powerful over two channels. :speaker:

All good stuff! How hard was it to remove trims? What needed pulling up etc . . . How did you secure the cables?

How about speaker cables to the fornt, how did you guys route those?

Ta!

Saturday is gonna be lots of fun! ordered some sound deadening stuff and it shoudl arrive tomorrow!

GSM - removing side trims by the cills was a pain in the ass! I ended up leaving a load in and using a solid bit of stick tied to the cable to thread under the trim.

You can see some of the damage to my trim incurred in the process of removal, etc on Saturday ;) All conveniently hidden once the rear seats are in. :D

Oh, and as for speaker cable routing - best watch Joel in action on that evening to see how he fancies doing it - down the centre of the car appears to be popular, and probably easier than going down each side of the car... Hoping he'll then follow up the "tap into the OEM wiring" route. I've already got the 5A chocolate block in the car ready for this. :)

Thats another reason why I went down the centre.

Just while we're on the subject of amp installation etc, just thought that i would mention that you can get most if not all that you need at a far less price from Maplin, either in the high street, or on the net : www.maplin.co.uk

for instance a 100A Circuit breaker, far safer than traditional fuses for just
