Was wondering if the power steering can be adjusted to have lighter assistance?

It's very unlikely with the hydraulic set up on the B5.5. The assist weight is set by the torsion spring in the pinion/valve assembly inside the rack, which defines the steering wheel torque at which fluid is admitted to the rams.

What's wrong with the standard set up? I would judge the assist to be about right - it's not a Japanese grannie's shopping trolley. You should be glad you don't have the electrical setup fitted to later VAG designs - at least the hydraulics are reliable if you use the spcified fluid.

Not sure on the face lift, but I'm pretty sure i saw the option in VCDS,

have you checked that the tyre pressures are correct? as i would agree with roto, IMO the assistance is spot on.

thanks for the replies guys.........im thinking the tyres are getting a bit thin as wear indicators are below the thread.........do you think a harder compound tyre would be better?

I doubt it would make that much difference to the steering feel, the main thing with tyres and feel is pressure.
