what oil grade is best to use please guys

Wot he said; plus all the info you need will be in the Owners Handbook.

I think you'd be fine with 5W-30 but check your manual.

But,

I find the hand book unclear to be honest

It says use 505 for fixed intervals

and 506 01 for veriable

what does this mean

does it mean if you get regular sevice changes to your oil

also how do you know if your car is a pdi enginge

Fixed service is one year or 10000 miles, variable service is two years or up tp 18500 (approx) the service indicator on the dash will countdown the miles to service. depending on the your driving style and journey type you can choose between fixed or variable. The oil for variable is a long life oil and a bit more expensive that the oil for fixed service.

My 2006 1.9 PD TDI handbook quotes VW 507.01 or VW 505.00 for fixed service & VW 507.00 for variable service.

If your engine is a 1.9 tdi 105 bhp (77kw) it's a PD
