DSG Quick start question

Featured Replies

Quick question,

How do you get a quick start with the DSG Gearbox,

Rev it in neutral and stick it in drive?

rev it with the brakes on and let your foot of the brake?

Edit: reason i ask, i've just took a dsg car for a test drive and i cant seem to get a quick start out of it

thanks,

Dan

Select D, hand brake off, left foot on brake, floor the throttle, off the brakes... ECU does the rest :)

There is a slight hesitation when taking off in Drive with the DSG but in normal traffic this is no problem and you soon learn to anticipate it.

Dropping into Sport mode really reduces this so it is almost unnoticable. The other option is to go into Manual mode for a quick start, manual mode will still change up at the same time Sport would, though you can change up erlier if you want.

Dont let this put you off, this is the best gearbox in the world - a version is now used in the 911.

Once on the move the changes are so fast acceleration times are quicker than a manual box.

it doesn't put me off,

I know its a good gear box, was pretty certain it was just me that didn't know how to use it properly

So the best way would be either put it in manual or S, foot on the brake, revs, let the brake off and away i go?

im assuming it has some form of launch control then?

In manual can you knock it in Neutral using the +/- selection?

On a 57-plate it should have launch control, yes :)

If you do that, the ECU should manage the throttle and traction control to mean you get the best possible take off

cheers, I should be looking at 2008/09 cars anyway so that will hopefully mean launch control, would be happier with launch control as i assume it would give you the quickest start possible thats safe for the gear box, only thing it would need then is the flappy paddle upgrade :)

MY 07 onwards:

ESP off

left foot on brake FIRMLY

stick in S or manual

rev to max torque rpm (some models wont let you pass it even if you floor it)

now comes the fun part: lift off brake and hang on

does that log itself in the ECU every time you do it like with the manual golf gti?

Not sure, but it's an advertised feature in the DSG promo materials round here. Even the Touran has it.
