Can anyone reccomend snow chains for my Elegance.

I have the 18" wheels and the manual states that you can only use them with 16 and 17" rims.

is this the case?

Have you considered "Autosocks" as an alternative. They're sold online by the Roofbox company.

see....another reason not to have the 18" wheels !!! LOL

My friendly parts guy, Paul, of Startin Skoda (Powick, Worcester) has today confirmed a price of £141.00 (inc VAT) for a set of four 7J x 16 steel wheels for the Superb II. At that price I'm tempted to buy a set and fit with winter tyres.

that seems a very fair price , after this winter and how the salt as corroded my alloys on my Mercedes i'm thinking about winter wheels

i have a set of used 16" VW alloys lined up for a good price.

Bit pricey for a trip up a mountain and a trip down a mountain though.

I've found someone on ebay doing the auto socks for 40 quid delivered which is ok and they'll fit over my 18's. Not sure the Frenchies will let me up the mountain with these as they tend to want to see chains but it's worth a shot.
