MDI query

Featured Replies

In my order for my new facelift Octavia Elegance I ignored the option of MDI as I thought the Aux connection in the Jumbo box would connect equally well to my ipod. Is this a correct assumption? Any benefits to having MDI?

Thanks

RP

As I understand it, MDI will give you full iPod control via the head unit. So yes, I'd class this as a benefit myself :) It should also charge the iPod.

What's the cost of it as an option? As the interface box looks like a fairly expensive bit of kit to retrofit, looking at the parts prices.

Steve

My VW dealer were offering this for £200 fitted. Then you need to buy the interface leads for each possibility e.g. USB, Ipod, etc.

Too dear for me.

also it will damage the iPod battery been always kept charged

Hi Gettin g a tad confused by all the comments regarding these. Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me what parts I'd need to have an MDI connected to a Bolero, so I can match the Factoy Fit MDI on an Octavia II ? Also, would I need anything else should I later upgrade to a columbus?

I know it would have been easier to specify it on the new car, but they didn't give me the option on a VRs LE :(

i got the parts off Ebay for £125 and fitted it myself, was pretty straight forward, needs some VCDS coding too

Dan,

you didn't happen to get the part numbers did you?

Cheers,

Martin

should be able to get them you as the fitting instructions I would imagine have all the part numbers, VW part number mind you but they'll work in the octavia no problem

this is the ebay shop i bought them off, its actually Hayselden VW Doncaster so I went in person to pick the parts up. they have them listed quite reguarly so its worth keeping an eye out as they sell the kit with all the parts for £125

Cheers Dan, I'll keep an eye out.

Thanks for letting me know.

Martin
