would I be right in thinking that if the columbus was to get stolen it would cost in the region of £1300 to replace ? I akm changing insurance companies at the moment an dmany place a limit on audio equipment of £750. I assumed this woudl be for aftermarket fit equipment and that factory fit would get replaced like for like. It turns out this is not so - they checked and said the max they pay is £750 even for factory fit. I explained the sat nav was worth well over a grand and they said "sorry. we dont pay more than £750"

ironically my current insurer (direct line) say that if its OEM then they will cover up to any value for replacement. The issue is they want to change me a £350 excess on my policy due to me changing the wheels. other quotes have a 100 excess.

In Autocar last week (11/2/09) there was a review of their Superb 170CR long term test car. They had to have the Columbus system replaced under warranty at Westover Skoda in Dorset. Had it been out of warranty the charge would have been £2114.

As the columbus headunit is standard on the elegance, it should be covered in full as part of your policy and factored into your insurance quote. Usually the audio equipment clause relates to aftermarket systems, which the columbus in the elegance is not.

i agree but I specifically asked this question of 2 of teh comanies I got the quotes from and they said not. I asked them to check and they went and talked toa manager and came back and said the limit of £750 still applied. So i told them thuis was stupid and that I woudl be taking my business elsewhere !!
