TFSI Cam follower check....question

Featured Replies

VWvortex Forums: How to change your cam follower inside. (Now with debate about failures and their cause.)

I plan to take a look at mine this weekend using the above instructions. I have one question though....

In this guys instuctions he doesnt mention aligning the cam to TDC unlike other threads I've seen on this.

While I have done a lot of general fitting work on cars, I have never had to do anything that relates to the position of the cam and so I dont really know how to do this if I do need to do it.

Could anyone help me out with some pointers here?

Cheers

Ron

i had my fuel pump replaced the other day by roadside assistance because the fuel pressure regulator at the top of the pump went tits up. And I swear blind i never saw him take off the covers to align the cam to TDC. (i could be wrong but im pretty sure he didnt)

Many people believe it's not required however the factory repair manual says otherwise. With the corect tool it can be done without taking the cover off but the average DiYer doesn't have these.

Choice is yours.

Also no point in checking, call it a replacement. Buy one and swap it out as there is little point in going to all the effort to look at it without changing it. Yours may well be 'more difficult' by having two metal pipes as opposed to one rubber and one metal.

Hmmm might leave this one then. My car does have the two metal pipes :(

The only reason why i am so keen is that my cars has only 4 months left of guarentee and so if there is anything funny going on I want it sorting by them.

Realisticly though I've had no problems in 32K miles

You might want to check it mate as i did mine with around 23K miles on it with the uprated pump (36k in total) and mine was well worn. For the time it will take you (prob about an hour as you have 2 metal pipes) it could save you some headaches later on as if you only have 4 months left on your warranty you can guarantee it will go after it runs out

See here for comparison between old and new
