Keyfob - not unlocking door

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, new to the forum, proud owner of a 2002 Octavia Vrs as of 2 weeks ago. :D

Small problem developed this evening, hope someone can help.

Keyfob no longer unlocks/locks door, lights flash on car, turns off/turns on alarm but doesnt unlock/lock

Key can however be used to open door or lock it.

Could it just be an issue with the battery in the fob?Im reading something in the manual that the code may have to be resynchronized, how would i go about this?

Thanks

It's probably the battery mate but here's the procedure anyway.

Procedure For Matching Remote Key Fobs To The Car:

Using a spare key switch the ignition on.

Insert the key to be programmed into the driver's door lock.

Manually lock the driver's door using the key.

Press the Lock or Unlock button on the fob once.

Wait for a least one second.

Press the Lock or Unlock button on the fob twice.

Big thanks to www.octavia-vrs.com for the instructions

Welcome to the forum BTW

Forgot to mention,no spare key! :(:(

I did it without the spare key so ignore the first line as I think thats specific to the octi 2

No such luck,.thanks anyway

I've this nasty feeling you actually need 2 keys to resync, so if you've only got one you need to go to a Skoda dealer to get a second cut and synced!

  • 2 months later...

This is my experience of changing fob batteries and "resynching".

I still have both keys that came with the car. One dead battery in what became my spare key, and the in use key was only opening the car intermittently but no problem using the key in the drivers door lock to lock/unlock, but less "cool" than locking the car from halfway across the car park!!

1. Went to Tesco yesterday evening and purchased two "Energizer" (sic) 2032 batteries and some bottles of red plonk.

2. Returned home opened the wine and poured. Eventually split the spare fob and removed the battery, poured some more red. Fitted battery put it all back together, no red LED when either fob button pressed, poured some more red. Refitted the battery and hey presto red LED as expected. Went outside in the rain stood next to car, pressing either button produced only a flash from the indicators no lock/unlock. Left lock button pressed for 1 minute as advised by handbook, still the same. Back indoors, poured some more red.

3. Assumed that this was not going to work as the battery had been dead for months and so the fob would need resynching, poured some more red. Split in use working fob and fitted new battery. No red LED when either button pressed, poured some more red. Refitted new battery, no change. Refitted original battery, no change! Poured a large amount of red and sulked as I had gone from one dead and one intemiitent fob with old batteries to two dead fobs with two sparkly new batteries.

4. Finishd all red whilst browsing the forum and found this thread and followed significant others feamle intuition/advice "perhaps it will work in the morning". Huh as if!!. Decided I must have one of the Fabia VRS for sale, went to bed.

5. Woke in the morning with a hang over.

6. Wrote down "resynching" process (don't have a printer at home, have you seen the price of replacement cartridges!) and took both keys out to the car

7. Used the "spare" fob to remotely unlock the door!!!!!! To be fair she didnt say "I told you so".

8. Came back indoors and refitted the new battery in the "in use" fob. Red LED lit when either button pressed and yes you have guessed it when I was testing the red LEDS I was unlocking/locking the car, and I was stood in my kitchen. The wonder of new batteries!

I don't know the moral of this story apart from just change the battery carefully as they are akward buggers to get in and out AND to get good contact. Oh and erm yes perhaps fob resynching and drinking copius amounts of red wine really don't mix!

Now to get that bloody fuel flap to latch again. Will I ever get the interior trim back again properly if I rip it out

Thanks for all the tips on here, this is the second time this site has helped me out,

Cheers!

If it's just the drivers door that doesn't lock/unlock, then I'd say that the drivers door control unit/wiring loom plug is wet and corroded.

What happens when you press the lock or unlock button twice (global lock/unlock)?

Got this sorted, mechanic did some soldering as some water had gotten into the drivers door
