Coilpack Bulletin

Featured Replies

I've read in several places (including this site) that there were issues with the coilpacks used on the Skoda Octavia vRS. I've also read that there was a Skoda bulletin issued which stated that failing packs would be replaced (if not replaced before failure).

So, since my car (2003 model) has no record of having coils replaced, I sent an email to Skoda asking if my year of model was affected and if it was included in any kind of coilpack replacement program.

I just got a call from Skoda services saying that there has never been any kind of coil issue, recall or bulletin issued on the Octavia vRS. Seems to fly in the face of what I have read elsewhere.

Does anyone have a copy of the bulletin or know where it was published?

Cheers,

Yours should be fine iirc it wasthe earlier models that were effected.

Skoda on the ball there with one fair play :rolleyes:

It might have been better to say that "affected models were manufactured prior to , and therefore a 2003 car was not affected by this issue"?

Yeah, that would have made more sense to me. I suspected that my car might be okay since it is a 53 plate. But for them to say that there was never a problem on ANY Octavia vRS seemed to fly in the face of a lot of other info I have read.

It might have been better to say that, but I didn't :)

Sorry mate, I didn't mean to say you should have said that, I meant Skoda should have said that.

Cheers,

That's what I meant too; SUK should have said what I said, and then we'd not be having this conversation.

Sorry chaps crossed wires

How can they even come up with crap like "theres never been a coil pack issue"

Theres tribes in the rain forest who have never seen a civilised man, yet even they know about VAG coilpacks :rofl::rofl:

Yeah. I mean, I have a female, NASCAR fan, Mustang driving, friend in the USA, and she knows about VAG coilpacks!

Hmmmmm ok

You can read the contents of the non-existent Bulletin in the first link below. Please also read the update in the second link and note that it was posted 3 years ago. I would be extremely surprised if Skoda UK were willing to entertain a claim for free replacement of coil packs at this late stage.

FWIW Skoda turned their noses up at the mooing brakes issue as well.

I was told something along the lines of "yes we know it's an issue but if you want them sorted you'll have to pay for the special pads to be fitted at the next service".

Surely if a bulletin went out (even if it was 5 years ago!) they have to be replaced on all affected cars, FOC

MMMH no problem with coils packs .

dont count on your 03 been okay mine is 03 and ive been through 2 sets .infact ive gone through that many at my garage that im looking for a bigger skip,

all vag group cars fail on coil packs end of ,and ive replaced some r revisions :thumbdwn: too,as with all parts its luck of the draw if it last a week or 5 years ive even returned faulty brand new oe coilpacks to tps(trade.part.services)as the've been faulty.

In my experience SUK will deny knowledge of known issues full stop.

Did you know that there has never been an issue with leaking doors on Mk1 Fabias for example?

Seems like all of us with wet Fabia interiors must just have good imaginations.

Great info, thanks guys. Fortunately (fromt the chassis numbers) it appears that mine falls just outside the affected range so, presumably, I have the later version of the coils.
