fitting carpets

Featured Replies

When I got my 1.8 TSi (Elegance) last year it came with the front mats already fitted (the plastic stud type) but the rear mats had the plastic rimmed holes but no studs in the main carpet to clip them to.

Yesterday I found a plastic bag of the fitting studs in a door pocket!!

Can anyone tell me if it is much of a job to fit the studs to the main carpet? They have what looks almost like a fat, self-tapping, plastic screw moulded into the underside of the stud, but I don't know if you have to drill a hole in the floor to take it, or if it just screws into the main carpet somehow.

You do not have to drill a holes, just screw them directly in the carpet.

In fact, you would not have any problems even without mounting it :).

put the mats in the correct position, get a flat bladed screwdriver and pierce the carpet by hitting the screwdriver with the palm of your hand, remove the mats and screw in the plastic screws, refit mats, job done.:)
