Sealed 'magic eye' batteries have been around for 20 years or so.

My Superb is fitted with the OE Varta battery which is still OK after 5 years' use. The "eye" is fitted to lots of different batteries - I think GM started it. It's a gimmick - all it tells you is the approximate electrolye level and specific gravity in one cell. As it's usually an end cell which eventually fails in a car battery due to colder running, it's not a lot of use.
