engine shake

Featured Replies

Okay, so the Octy vRs went about 2 months ago, and I am now running a 55-plate Seat Altea 1.9 TDi, which (I am told) is the same 105 bhp engine as the Furby VRs.

However, it appears to have a rather annoying little problem - when the engine is fully warmed up, on tickover the engine frequently shakes slightly causing the whole car to shake. It is not excessive and is barely noticeable (at the moment), but I am concerned that an expensive problem could be developing. I am aware of the problems with the DMF, but would have thought that if it was the DMF, then the problem would get worse with increased revs, but as soon as the revs are increased slightly, the shaking stops, plus the car has only covered 35k miles.

I have posted on the Seat forum, but as yet have had little feedback.

Has anyone experienced this problem ??

Our Fabias do it when the air con's off. Try switching it on to increase the load slightly on the engine at idle...

Will give that a try, but is it something I need to worry about ??

It's certainly not something I'd worry about - as I say, both my and my wife's cars do it.

I've just noticed that you asked whether the Altea has the same engine as the Fabia vRS, though, and it doesn't. They share the same block but that's about it, I think... The vRS engine has a higher power output, but isn't Euro V compliant. I think the 105bhp version is, however...

Phil,

That vibration your talking about is what happens with a diesel engine  Your not used to it after having your petrol for so long

Cheers Matt, but the shake is intermittent, and only occurs when the engine is ticking over at normal operating temperature.

We occasionally have diesel pool cars at work (when we have broken our normal ones :D:D !!), and I have also serviced quite a few over the years, so I am familiar with diesel engines, but have not encountered anything like this before.
