key fob remote not responding

Featured Replies

hi all my spare key fob, hardly used does not lock or unlock the car anymore, but it will lock, unlock manually and car will start with the key. also when i press the buttons the red light on the key flashes so not battery issue. any ideas thanks, cause i think the stealers will rob me to recode it.

Could still be fob battery related - try swapping batteries with your working fob. When my regularly used one went the light would flash most of the time but wouldn't remotely operate the locks.

I usually get my coin cell batteries from ebay as they're much cheaper than the high-street places.

tried battery from working one still not functioning, i think it needs recode any other ideas? thanks

Check in your handbook, I'm sure I've seen it in there about how to "re-align" a key fob if it stops working. If I remember right it says it happens when a fob is not used for a very long time so the "rolling" combinations can no longer compensate and update.

I tried my spare transporter remote after 18 months of non-use, it still worked fine. Odos is right, I'm sure there is a section that tells you how to get the remote re-synchronised. Did it work OK when you first got the car ?

Just checked in may handbook, what it says is

* Press any button on the remote control

* Pressing of the button means that the door will unlock with the key within 1 minute.

although it's not worded very well I would assume that this means you have to press and hold the button on the key fob until the door(s) unlock which could take up to a minute.

I've never had to do it so can't say for sure
