Hatch vs Estate - fors/againsts

Featured Replies

HI,

I currently have a 1.6 focus estate and am looking at different models to replace it. One of these is the Octavia vRS estate (petrol).

It was mentioned though whether I actually need an estate or whether a hatch would do....

please discuss

Cheers

Rich

I used to have an Octy Estate, and the Memsahib still has a hatch the same age, same engine. Nothing to choose between them as regards practical boot space - the hatch is ginormous - but the loading height is a bit limited 'cos you haven't got the squarish roof section at the back.

The hatch is a bit quieter at speed than the estate. However, if you've ever had an estate car of any sort (and you have!) you'll be disappointed with a non-estate sooner or later. My Octy replacement is a Saab mainly because you can't get a Superb Estate. Get an Octy estate, would be my advice. Mine did 115,000 miles in four years and was still a good 'un.

I hadn't thought about the rear suspension.. is it that much stiffer?

You get a smoother ride with a heavy load in the back :)

Estate every time. I've had two of them and with the elegance you get a completely flat floor which is great for loading stuff/bikes and the piano I go out gigging with! The 12v socket is great for the fridge for trips out with the kids etc, and loads of storage for the odd trip to France.

is the flat floor only available in the elegance? Where does the elegance stand in the range? I only really know about fords...
