Car hit twice in 10 days :(

Featured Replies

Went to my VRS 10 days ago to find someone had scraped across the near side rear bumper, next to the wheel arch, about 5 inches in height and a couple of inches wide.

Fair enough - never had a car hit before so have been lucky so far. Went to see my bodyshop owning mate on Saturday who is colour coding my front grill, can try and do the area for £80 or the whole bumper for £200.

Got back to my car today (public car park) and someone has driven around it too tight, leaving a big scrape about the size of a football on the opposite side of the bumper.

Gutted. At least the £200 still stands I guess as all the damage is on the bumper :(

To look on the bright side - at least you hadn't had the first scrape repaired

Sorry for you!

BTW, after having "her" finally washed, I discovered a sort of "punch" on the left, above the bumper. Seems someone, perhaps a truck, reversed into...

Actually I'm collecting scratches until I'll carry her to the bodyshop.

Ciao,

I don't know if it's my imagination or if I'm becoming a grumpy old git but people don't seem to care any more. My car's had a minor dent at the back (don't know when), a minor scrape on the bumper (don't know when), there's a mark in the door where it's been hit by another car door. My wifes car has similar bumps and scratches where it's been hit while parked, my son's car has a dents over both rear wheel arches where it's been car parked.

When I get in and out of a car I take great care not to let my door hit the car next to me for two reasons - I don't want to damage somebody else's property and I don't want to damage my own property.

When I first started driving almost 30 years ago, these minor dents were unusual but now it seems that every car I know has been knocked. It's flaming annoying and a symptom of the attitudes of today's couldn't care less society.

Yours grumpily

Agreed!

Last time I was on a bus in my town, I realized that almost all of the sides of the cars passing the bus were dented/scratched/marked.

And I didn't see the other side, either!!!

We'll I must be grumpy too, I've always taken care around other peoples cars etc, unfortunately the respect doesn't seem to get returned, probably by the minority to be fair. I had my Octy hit just after xmas on the drivers side rear bumper. It left a nice 10 inch long by 4 inch scrape through the paint (my car is storm blue). Then at the end of Feb, the mother in law had just died, on my way back home and a motorbike, without the rider hit the drivers side rear, damaging light cluster, rear bumper, rear passenger door and drivers door. Luckily I hadn't had the previous damage repaired, so his insurance covered the costs. In 21 years of driving I've never had any knocks or scrapes until now,

Can agree with the lack of car of some people, i've actually seen this happen before. Watched a woman park in a spot as i was walking past, flung the doors open & a nice loud clang as it hit the other car just as i was passing the car, made a passing comment that i was glad it want my car she just hit & was met with a shrug! Not a care in the world!

I must be getting old too but it doesn't help that car parking spaces seem to be getting smaller too.

When I were a lad, you could open the door wide and still have room to spare.

Car parking spaces are not got smaller it's the other way round, cars are getting bigger.

I park far away at the empty end of the car park and try and park next to a nice car if i can, hoping they'll take a bit more care (not always the case)

I've tried that too - have you ever noticed though that when you park all by yourself somebody always parks next to you. You can get to the furthest end of the car park and there will be free bays around you and somebody always park next to you.

I always try and park at the end of the row that way, hopefully, there's only one side of the car at risk :(.

I had someone pull up next to me and open the door heavily on my door while I was reading the paper in the driver's seat so I wound down the window and made a jokey comment. She looked at me like I'd just spat in her soup, and her husband wasn't smiling either. Mind you, I wouldn't have been either if I had to wake up next to her every day.

I was wondering if they were disadvantaged in some way, but I think they were just pig ignorant

Makes you wonder though…
