This is a good point - I am only working to the sizes of the OE items on my Fabia.

I cannot be held responsible if you order sizes that then don't fit.

On running the buy past the Brisky staff (yes sorry i openned the thread THEN followed the rules!) the issue of copyright was raised.

As these badges are a recreation of a previously used offical Skoda design they may have something to say and the whole thing could go down the tubes!

I will be attempting to get hold of their Marketing department on Tuesday for an official update, but i don't expect it to be a quick & easy process.

However if anyone out there knows anything about copyright and can suggest a way to modify the design so that people are still happy but Skoda can't complain then make yourselves known!

Didn't want to rain on anyone's parade, but this caught me out a couple of weeks ago.

I think the boot badge on the Octy 2 is the same as the Fabia - 80mm.

I bought one as a replacement for my front grill, took it out to the car to find it was too small - it 'fits' as the 2 little holes are in the same place, but it leaves quite a gap around the outside of the badge. I think the actual measurement is 88mm.

Also, I can't remember now what shape the 80mm badges are (I sent mine back) but the proper 88mm badge has quite a pronounced curve to it to fit onto the grill - I guess these replacement badges have a flat back?

If they say no can we still get my concept badges made as they are my design and only loosely based on the Skoda logo?

i quite fancy the normal badges but in black and silver

if anyone has already de-badged and has the originals lying around drop me a PM as I could do with them being posted to me so that i can complare like for like and make sure what the replacements are actually fit for purpose!

With regards the Octy 2 badges I could probably get a larger 88mm very made but the price would go up even further

Not much of an update yet but:

Having trawled the Skoda UK website all i could find was a customer services number; so I called them up and asked to be put through the marketing department.

"Sorry sir we are not able to put you through"

"Uh...why not?"

"All enquires have to come through customer service regardless of the final department required"

"But you can't help me or put me through?"

"No sir i'm sorry i can't so could you please email your query to us?"

As such I have sent an email detailing what we would like to the customer services people who will forward it on to the relevant markting people

I wouldn't hold your breath people!

I wonder if the dozens of Ebay sellers selling Skoda keyrings, lapel badges, decals etc.bothered to contact Skoda?

Agreed Rob but the last thing i want is for me, or Briskoda, to end up on the wrong side of Skoda!

Well it was speedier than i expected but the response from Skoda UK is pretty much what i was expecting:

The Skoda badge is in effect the manufacturer's trademark on vehicles built and subsequently imported to the UK. I am therefore unable to agree to any alteration to the trademark or any remanufacture thereof.

Furthermore, it is not possible to authorise our drivers to replace the original badge on their vehicle with an alternative badge or logo.

From an offical Skoda UK point of view it's obviously not possible for her to authorise modification to cars, and from a trademark/copyright point of view they were never going to agree to the badge.

Though as Rob says in his post i doubt all the stuff on eBay has the official sign off so maybe they won't bother.

There must be something somewhere about if we use a logo that is Big_Dave's original work but happens to look a lot like an old Skoda logo then there is no problem

This is a pity - as you say it would be interesting to see why & how other people get away with it. Surely you could put an older badge on??

Couldn't we do this somehow, but not on Briskoda? Surely all the vRS wheel inserts etc are breaking these rules too, but nobody seems to give a monkeys. That group buy has been up for ages!

Anyways, if we take it away from Briskoda, the site can't get into trouble. Maybe we could all call the company with our individual requirements- this would make it our personal responsibility e.g. 'Hi, would you be able to make me 2 x Skoda domed gel badges, say 80mm in silver and black?' They've already got the design, so shouldn't be difficult...

agreed Andy there is clearly a lot of this kinda thing going on so Skoda are unlikely to sting us but i'd rather be safe then sued!

I will leave the thread open over the weekend so that those weekend only users can have their say but in all likely hood i will have to close it next week and proceed no further :thumbdwn:
