DAB Radio and the RNS510??

Featured Replies

Just put down a deposit on a 55 plate 2.0TDI Octavia and am keen to start tinkerning so am searching for a RNS510 for the first mod.

Anyone fitted DAB radio to the 510 unit? I see from searching the 'net it was available in the Golf.

Also, Can Ipods be easily hooked up to this unit?(track names on screen? Video input?) What other parts do I need for the 510 to make this happen?

Thanks guys!

I have a pure dab radio connected to my RNS 510 via the aux input in the jumbo box. The pure unit sits nicely in the open ashtray. Sound quality seems ok too. Well for my ears anyway.

Depending on which website you believe the DAB unit is already present in the RNS 510, it's just not turned on. Some websites say it just needs an antenna plugged in (could be, but where do you plug in the antenna?), some say it's for the US Sirius satellite market (I doubt that as US models are different) and some say it's just a bit of code in the firmware that does nothing. Certainly, if you access the <> menu after start-up, one of the radio options is to let you view the DAB signal strength, and it will sit there quite happily showing a zero signal. I think it's probably in there, but not turned on as it only has two antenna inputs and they'd lose diversity and/or TMC without the second antenna. Personally I would cheerfully lose the TMC for DAB:)
