Few newbie questions

Featured Replies

Ok, so just picked up my 06 plate Superb Elegance.

I opened up the space where I thought the CD changer should be to find a gap with a cable hanging out? Was the changer standard on the elegance? It has the full satnav unit.

I have no noise when reversing, again where parking sensors standard, if so is there a button to turn it on?

Finally what are the tiny switches for below the rear view mirror?

This gets stranger.

Invoice and vehicle documents all say 06 Elegance.

Now I have the ON/OFF switch for the Cruise control but no end buttons?

The rear parking sensors beep once when I engage reverse but nothing else?

No rear sunblind (but it does have privacy glass)

Do I have cause to shout at the dealer?

It's to turn the auto dimming mirror off.

The CC buttons are on the L/H side of the steering wheel.

Seems like you have faulty rear sensors mate. Someone with an Elegance model should be able to confirm further

Faulty sensors normally activate a constant beep,

the beep when reverse is engaged is to confirm the system is working.

Thats true as it engages. I guess you need to brave it out and test it and by reversing into a wall or something.

There are cheaper ways than this, get someone to watch you reverse up to the wall

Got to say this car is superior to my old Omega in allmost every way!

BUT, the dealer never gave me a manual so I`m resorting to the Skoda website one.

Just to confirm is the CC control on the end of the stalk or on the wheel itself?

Also the parking sensors this morning beeped once followed by a second long beep but the stopped!

I`ll try and find a soft wall to reverse up to?

with the aid of someone else of course.

You will have an ON/OFF slidable switch on your left hand stalk for CC and you should have a four spoke steering wheel with the C/C switches on the left hand side and the Radio switches on the right hand side?

Sounds like you have some faulty sensors to me mate and this is not un-common on the Superb I am afraid...........I just don't listen to mine anymore..........

The short beep followed by a long beep is def sensor problems. Go back to dealer and get them to sort it.

Been on to the dealer, unfortunatley they are 3 hours away, However they said they will contact my local Skoda dealer to do the work then invoice them direct. Bonus!

Are all Skoda dealers so good?

I think Skoda Dealers fall into two categories - Excellent and Crap. Fortunately I have an excellent one (Sherlodge in Kent) but if you read the various threads on this site there are many who really should be ashamed of themselves.

I would go a step further than that, you get some crap ones, who hopefully won't be around too long when their customers realize how bad they are.

Then you get 'Excellent' dealers who unfortunately cut corners when they are servicing a lease vehicle, which is

a/ criminal and

b/ just plain wrong, it doesn't matter who is paying the bill - do what you have charged for

Then you get the truly excellent dealers, who do what they have charged you for and go out of their way to make sure the customer is happy.

I know you can't please everyone all the time, but it's how you deal with the problem that matters IMO.

My car had only ever been 'serviced' by the aforementioned garage in Kent (3 times), yet filters had not been changed and clips broken on the engine under tray so they were cable tied back up - this is just wrong from a main dealer.

Fortunately my local dealer is MUCH better.

i guess once a car is out of warranty its best to go to a good local garage and provide them with genuine VAG service parts and just pay for the labour. I done this with my Cupra and it saved me bucks and genuine parts were installed (i double checked)
