flushing through brake fluid.

Featured Replies

lots of questions here:confused:

im just about to order 3 litres of brake fluid, ive decided to go for

MOTUL RBF 600 Factory Line racing brake fluids due to the high performance spec and bargain price, but there are two options to choose from

MOTUL brake fluids

1-MOTUL RBF 600 Factory Line racing brake fluid

or

2- MOTUL RBF 660 FACTORYLINE DOT 4 100% synthetic fluid for hydraulic actuated-brake and clutch systems

Which one is correct for the vRS brake system, and is 3 litres about the right amount or overkill

Im going to change the fluid myself, I dont think it will require flushing the system out as it is a DOT 4 fluid as standard in the vRS. is that correct?

will it be ok just top up the fluid and pump it through until all the old fluid has been expelled?

Last question?

where is it best to drain the fluid from...im thinking loosen all the bleed nipples?

Are you serious?

I would first consider if your DIY skills are up to the job.

mong moment. meant to write bleed nipples.

yes my DIY skills will be up to the job. just wanted a few pointers.

Make 100% sure you know what you're doing. If any air gets into the ABS unit that's when the difficulties will start. By simply loosening all the bleed nipples that's what you'd be heading towards.

The appropriate procedure should be described in a Haynes manual. If the old fluid has been in a while this will be darker and the new fluid will be more obvious once it comes out of the nipple.

If using the pedal bleed method don't push the pedal all the way down (put an object underneath it to prevent this).

You'd probably be best off using something like the gunson eezibleed. You use pressure from a spare tyre to push brake fluid through the system. You connect it all up, then go around and undo the bleed nipples in the correct order until clean fluid with no bubbles emerges through the tube attached to the nipple. Make sure to use a hexagonal brake spanner to undo the bleed nipples, front and back may use different sizes.
