Factory alarm classificaton

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have received an insurance declaration form where they are stating the alarm must be a manufacturers fitted Thatcham approved device. Is this the case for a Comfort early 2003 model?

It's factory fitted, and *should be* thatcham approved, but likely only thatcham 2 or 3.

That's usually all you need to tell them, and they'll know which come with alarms as standard, and which dont.

Thanks again gadgetman. Thats what i was hoping for. Was hoping the insurance company would know. They haven't asked for 1, 2 or 3 so i have signed the declaration.

The only time they'd ask for proof is if it was an aftermarket one you got fitted.

They'd then require evidence that it was installed correctly, by an authorised installed, and a copy of the certification certificate. That's what I had to provide when I installed a Clifford Cat 1 on a previous car, and when bought a car that had the cat 1 upgrade from standard alarm as a factory option ('96 Clio 1.8 RSI)

Thats exactly what i thought. I though it was weird that they are asking me to signup a declaration that my factory fitted one is Thatcham approved. After market ones i can understand as the certificate number needs to be provided.
