Centre Console Buttons

Featured Replies

Hi,

Random question, I've just bought an '04 Elegence TDI. This morning when I came to turn on the rear de-mister, I found that I have 2 identical buttons! I have (l to r):

Rear demister

ASR

Rear demister!!!

Fuel filler cap release

Please can anyone tell me what the second de-mister should be/is?

Thanks

Jimbo

The one between ASR and the fuel cap switch is for heated seats on models equipped with them. Sounds like someone replaced the blank button with a rear heated window one - either that or it's wired up to something else (footwell neons, NOS, Ejector seat )

I think the 2nd (3rd button) demister is normally a blank switch.

Well unfortunately its deffo not NOS or an ejector seat. :-( It was a fleet car before me so I think neons are out of the question too. Think I'll have a rummage when I get back from work tonight.

Thanks everyone.

On Taxi's that is where the taxi light button was installed, iirc. The demister button is designed to be at the left hand end (so the raised section of the buttons will not look right either.....)

Yeah the buttons don't match. More importantly it has wires!!!!

I had the HU and glove box out to fit a xcarlink and it has a set of wires going off towards where the passengers feet would be. Had a quick look in the engine compartment but couldn't see it coming out.

Am intrigued now and want to know.

If it was a taxi button where would I expect it the wires to go ( I don't think it is because its only done 79K miles)?

Any more suggestions??

sounds interesting, i don't really have any serious suggestions, unless the wires just end without being attatched to anything.

i take it you have pressed it? if it's the button that ends humanity as we know it, then bear in mind there are other people on this planet please

I've pressed it. Nothing appears to happen. I checked the news after and there have been no reported atomic events......

There is what appears to be an alarm fitted (scorpion). Maybe its something to do with that?

Hi Jimbo,

The extra button between the ASR & Fuel filler release is normally allocated for the heated front seat rheostats.

Regards,

Nick
