"Accessing" Head Units on Fabias

Featured Replies

Just a little "hint" I thought I'd pass on after a quick visit to my local dealer on friday afternoon...

On the tuesday I'd left my car there for them to run some (supplied) cables from the front of the car down to the boot, ready for me to hook up the sub/amp affair.

Anyway - I realised on tuesday evening that the aerial wasn't connected to the head unit anymore. Not having any 'keys' to remove the kenwood head unit, I made a note to pop into the garage next time I managed to leave work early.

So - pop in, explain problem and one of the mechanics comes out to have a look. He then says that the easiest way to do anything with head units is to remove the entire left side (glovebox) of the fab's dash, as this allows small hands to get behind the head unit and tuck the cables out of the way (I had a look and there is v. little room behind the head unit). He also resorted to removing the central air vents to aid in the "hide the cables" game :-)

Erm... rambling post I know (curse you, cheap beer!), but worth knowing that 5 screws are all that stands between you and easy access to the back of a head unit - especially when it's such a tight squeeze... ;)

Right - back to the beer - 8 bottles of halleroder for a fiver isn't too bad....

I suspect this to be the same for the Tavia's too... Which is good news as I'm planning to install some navigational/entertainment equipment some day and that might make things a bit more easy to accomplish :)
