Stereo / wiring woes

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Didnt know if this would be most relevent here or the I.C.E section, but here goes:

The bloke who had my vRS before me hardwired in some heated seat pads by messing about with the ciggy lighter splitting wires etc etc, i resolved that prob but as i was removing the extra wire he had tapped from one of the red power wires at the back of the stereo it caught on the gear stick and sparked,

the stereo went off and the doors locks opened (all locked apart from divers door which was open)

Removed the extra wire and checked all fuses but the stereo refuses to come back on, its a sony explod with wind down front, if you press eject it spits a cd out and you can put one in but it wont power up,

it gets to the security code in my g/f's car but not mine, and her stereo doesnt work in my car, so its gotta be elsewhere not the stereo but ive checked every fuse twice but it just wont work and i'm struggling to find what else could be wrong

any help or thoughts on this would be much appreciated

thanks

Rob

Check the fuses again, and check the ISO connector for a permanent 12v and a ignition switched one with a multimeter.

ISO Radio connector pinout

Pay special attention to this bit:

Some radios reverse the functions of pin 4 and pin 7.

will have a look, dont have a multimeter but i will try to borrow one, its just really strange as no wires have been changed, i just cut the extra tapped wire off and taped it up,

Is it possible that wire has been bodged into the stereo harness?

Otherwise it must be a fuse you blew when you shorted the extra wire, and you've maybe missed it?

doubt the wires have been bodged cause it was working fine before the wire touched the metal and sparked,

which fuse would it have blown as i have changed the stereo fuse and also the fuse on the box at the end of the dash for the stereo and still no joy,
