Engine swap Octavia 1,8 SLX to vRS turbo

Featured Replies

Hi, have som thougths about changing my 1,8 non turbo very slow sewingmachine engine inte a 1,8 RS turbo, hear from some people that it involves quite some job and parts. Does anyone know wich parts u need to change, gearbox? suspension? Breaks? maybe some chassie parts? Is there any difference to drive a RS than normal octavia except bigger engine? Would think it should be more agile and fast turning, as the Golf GTI...

Know its better to buy a new car but its not so fun :)

my opinion would be to go out & buy a vrs as the work & cost involved would not be worth it,if you buy a vrs then you can improve that if you want to...

As already said just buy a vRS

Unless you have a BIG pile of funds then i wouldn't entertain this idea as you are in for a lot of headache.

Im not a mechanic but i would say if you swap the engines you will need:

Gearbox

Clutch

Suspension

Brakes

Wiring

Fuel Lines

Exhaust

Then (unless you are a mechanic and can do it yourself) you got to pay someone to fit all that.

As Mikey has said buy a new one and spend the funds doing that up

Mmm maybe better get a vrs, could be alot of trouble true... But fun if it worked :)

Hmmm risk vs reward:rolleyes:

If you were putting an RS4 engine in to create the ultimate sleeper then maybe:rolleyes:

You could probably get a bit of money for the SLX then put it towards a vRS.

Also with a standard vRS you would probably pay less in insurance than you would for a 1.8 SLX heavily modified to be a vRS.

Engine, gearbox, manifolds, all other induction and exhaust pipework, ECU, and for your safety (and others), springgs, dampers and brakes.

Unless you can do it yourself and find a vRS that's being broken that looks rather like a vRS purchase sized bill!

You'd be better buying a vRS and making it look like an SLX if thats your aim. :D

Or buy a 1.8T Elegance, remap it and sort the suspension another way towards SLX/sleeper look. If only I had the money for the insurance to turn mine into one....

Yes exactly, would be cool to do some serious driving and still look like a slow turd... Live in norway so they do punish u with alot taxes for having a big fun engine, sure they wont notice small change :) Problem is to sell the vRS that will be turned into a crap SLX...

I agree though mate jus buy a vRS as i would say you can get one pritty cheap nowadays.

:iagree: It will very likely cost you far more to do the upgrade than to get yourself a good starting of a vrs straight off... i managed to pick a 53 plate up for £3700 and only 55K

there are some good Mk1 's out there to be had

Yup its a good idea. I have often thought about doing it to my MK2 vRS but when i enquired about the cost involved it would be cheaper to just buy an RS4:rolleyes:

If i had millions though then i would do as that would be an outstanding sleeper and the look on peoples faces would be funny as hell:rofl::rofl:
