Knocking when braking

Featured Replies

Good evening,

I've just joined and am amazed by the level of detail and information on this site. I have owned an Octavia VRS estate '05 for a few months now and have recently noticed a knocking noise from the back of the car when I brake. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I have gone through the search engine and have not found anything that seems to cover this but have not read everything.

I'd appreciate your input as to what this could possibly be before I take it to a garage. One thing I have learned from here is that I'll need to get the Cam Belt changed (irrespective of mileage) as my car is now 4yrs old!

If its a single knock when you apply the brakes could be slightly undersized pads moving in the carrier or could be worn caliper guide pins.

do you get the same knocking noise if you make the car change direction suddenly?

It is a single knock, I'm not aware of it knocking when turning suddenly. Thanks for your responses chaps

Check to make sure the spare wheel is properly secured.
