Using my phone as a music player

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

have read some previous threads about using a ipod instead of the CD changer.

I would like to do the same but use my Sonyericsson phone. What lead do I need to purchase? Any web sites you can recommend?

Is it just a case of pulling the stereo out, removing the CD changer plug and putting the new lead in?

Thanks

Elliot

If there IS a suitable emulator lead available, then yes. Otherwise it's the GCSE electronics project described in the threads you've undoubtedly seen...

Looks very similar to the adaptor I have that connects my Alpine changer to my OEM head unit, so I reckon that should do it. You might struggle to fit it within the dash, behind the HU, however, so a bit of thought might be required over the actual installation...

What HU do you have?

Alternatively you could purchase a Sony BT2500 or BT5000 headunit which will allow you to stream Music via Bluetooth from your phone, and also act as a hands free kit. The BT5000 is the more advanced model which allows you to switch tracks etc from your head unit and also downloads your phonebook which you cannot do with the 2500.

No model number on the front, its a taper in the front and 6 disc changer in the back. Hope this helps??

You might have to take it out and have a look at the sticker on the back.

Is it a factory fitted one or aftermarket?

Hi,

its the completed standard Skoda Stereo

The symphony tape seems the same as the symphony CD player (apart from the obvious)

To use your SE phone with it you will need an emulator/adapter with an audio line input, not an ipod input on its own. Depending on which one you go for, it will either be a 2xphono connector or a 3.5mm jack connector. You will also need the SE phone to 3.5mm adapter which comes with most phones.

The symphony seems compatible with the Dension 300 (the one I use) which has Ipod, USB and 3.5mm line-in and has expandable features (keeping your changer, adding bluetooth, etc). The connects2 and XCarlink also support the symphony, but I cant say if they are IPod only or not. There are plenty of threads about both on here.

Whichever you choose, you wont have control from the HU, you will only have control from your phone.

Hope this helps
