I need more speed

Featured Replies

Well there I am Sunday afternoon, bimbling along on a road I know like the back of my hand. Spots EVO in the rear mirror, think I know the road, I know that's a lot quicker than my car but what the hell might be able to keep it behind me. So foot down take a few bends EVO is all over me pulls out and is gone before you know it. Awesome.

I NEED A FASTER CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or a slower one;).

I recon more fun is to be had by working a car hard, but actually not going v quickly. You would still enjoy the road, the journey would be less rushed AND you would have the chance to make the car sing in the upper rev range.

A 120 Estelle would be just perfect!;)

if you want an evo buy one, if you want fun keep your skoda, these cars are world beaters, they are sleepers, these are for blowing of your dad cools, and boy racers and an old clapped out skoda, thats what it is all about

I totally agree - old Peugeot 309 gti - not particularly fast - but being able to scream that 1.9 engine is very satisfying indeed, without going too fast and therefore staying reasonably safe.

Need more speed? Get yourself a bike to blow pretty much any thing on four wheels away and just enjoy your Fabia.

Hmm well I would do, but the only time I rode a bike I crashed it into a wall. That's kinda put me off.

Now would I be right if you had a faster car, you would also be crashing into a wall?

Handling and brake mods next on the shopping list then?

Its Tailhappy again - just to add a few more words.

If you had a faster car when that EVO appeared in the rear view mirror, I get the feeling that you would have been tempted to push it faster to keep it behind. Your concentration would have been more on the car behind than the road ahead - it is impossible not to - I have been there and done it too.

Sadly, what is left out of the equation on these high speed cross country blats is wobbly cyclists and animals. A good mate was nearly killed when a deer ran out of the hedge when he was giving it some beans in his Mini. It whacked through the screen and he was badly hurt. I hit a tiny deer when giving it some and ran it over and it was like running over a boulder - nearly sent me down a steep bank.

Without trying to sound like some stuffy old fart, the majority of the UK's roads are no longer suitable for 'blats' without really amping up the risk factor. They are just too crowded. I have nearly been wiped out by overtakers and so now I just go easier and if someone is pushing to race/get past I let them go and take the risks. I saw one car that was pushing me to race in the verge a mile down the road with the front end through a fence. What would have happened if I had taken up the challenge?

At the risk of sounding like an evangelistic broken record:

Too true, I've already done IAM, skid control and a pursuit course. So I've a fighting chance of not crashing a faster car. Plus I'm careful with cyclists as I sometimes ride a bike to work, and horses - I've done a bit of riding in the past so again I always go past them wide and slow.

Andy is spot on, sort out the handling, which is next on my list.
