Remapping

Hello,

I own a octavia vrs mk1, 129000 miles yet full service history and just had waterpump/cam belt changed again.

Looking to get her remapped but is this a wise thing to do on a car that has somewhat high mileage?

Will this cause lots of engine problems?

Thanks in advance.

If you splash out a little more for a custom map rather than a generic one, the tuners will tailor the map to suit the engine. But in fairness, other than being prone to water pump failure, the 1.8T was a pretty sturdy engine, so 129k shouldn't be too big a deal!

You will be putting more wear on the clutch, and depending on its current state, you might be looking at buying a new one at some point. All down to your driving style, of course :)

If you're still running on stock turbo, the bearings and seals will not be in the best shape possible, and a remap will naturally reveal potential problems there. But even without a remap, you will be looking at replacing the turbo at some point, anyway :)

I say go for it! You only live once (unless you're Hindu).
